ERIS is a tool that supports researchers and research managers to identify relevant projects and activities, and potential partners. It should help different organisations and researchers to find other projects and potential partners in the research field. Currently, datasets from Cordis carry all this data in multiple large tabular files. One of the visualisations of this data that Cordis provides is a large world map that is hard to navigate and does not provide any search or filter options. For ERIS, the data should be presented simple and clearly. Only the Cordis database will be used, and no other data sources will be integrated in this project. The client has made clear that this is just meant to be used as a setup and further specific user adjustments will have to be done.
The client was Robbert Fisher. He was familiar with the Cordis dataset trough his work. However het noticed that Cordis dataset itself is rather difficult to use. Our client saw this as an opportunity to use the Cordis datasets and create a tool that allows navigation and a better visualisation of the data. This first started out as an interesting side project, but quickly gained potential and positive feedback.
We divided the group in an frontend and backend team for the website. Each team communicated and distributed the tasks. We had one project lead that did the overall organisation and communication with the client. Even though there was an frontend and backend team, we did help each other and there were opportunities to learn and complete tasks form the other team.
